Dr. Stefan Gesell-May
Dr. Stefan Gesell-May
German Equine Specialist and German Specialist in Equine Surgery
German Specialist in Equine Ophthalmology
Working full-time in equine clinics (university and private clinics) for about 12 years enabled me to deal intensively with the whole range of clinical equine medicine. This is reflected in the further training titles "Specialist Veterinarian for Horses", "Specialist Veterinarian for Equine Surgery" and the "Specialist in Equine Ophthalmology" (german additional medical title).
I have had a special interest in equine ophthalmology since I was a student. As a long-time assistant of Prof. Gerhards, who developed and established vitrectomy in horses, I was gradually introduced to this procedure (about 180 vitrectomies per year were performed at LMU Munich; vitrectomy in horses = vitreous body surgery for the effective treatment of classic ERU / "periodic eye inflammation" / moon blindness).
Since 2013 I have been self-employed and offer specifically eye examinations and operations in horses.
